anytime you wear a helmet you should have some sort of neck support or brace.
How did F1 cope without HANS pre 2003, I’ll take my chances to Waitrose.
A helmet is the best, but I quite like glasses and fresh air, it’s what makes the Atom special IMO.

Same. Helmet on track and never on the road unless the weather is dubious. Sunglasses (CE certified) the rest of the time. I leave plenty of room from the car in front to save getting shot blasted by gravel.

If you’ve ever copped a fly on the bonce, it hurts.
Anything else, leaves a scar.

If your not comfortable to ever drive without a helmet why buy an Atom without a windscreen?
Its not fun wearing a helmet all the time on the road. Its a faff and overkill for 99% of road scenarios.
Atom 4, Clio v6, & some other cars obviously.

I had my 3.5 for over 4 years, and never wore a helmet on the road. Sometimes I’d wear a beanie hat, especially during the winter months just to keep warm.
Yes, occasionally I’d get a stone hit me in the head, but never cut me or caused a scar. The pain was never more than being finger flicked tbh.
I’d happily suffer the odd flick than swallow wearing a helmet all day long.
I love the Atom for the freedom of open top driving, without the restriction of a helmet. Much like owning a convertible car without the windscreen.

I had a Caterham Superlight R with aero and used Wylie frames with polycarbonate lenses. I basically wore my ski hat and jacket, with Berghaus goretex paclight overtrousers. Generally toasty and never really suffered other than deafness (audio earplugs) or when it was really wet

REG WROTE :
Why would I pay more to go slower
Slower SLOWER!!??
- the full windscreen massively improves the aero on an Atom - to such an extent that I got 162 mph (indicated & on the satnav) down the main straight at Supercar Sunday last year at Silverstone
(fitting the clear polycarbonate side panels also has a beneficial effect on the aero)
Given the size of Clarkson's head (and mouth
) in the TG video it probably knocked 15mph off the speed!!

In a standard 3.5, not R, I’ve seen 155, two up ‘somewhere’. Perhaps our bobble hats should be introduced into F1, clearly they’re very slippery
It could be the exhaust though. Probably worth 1.something HP

I did the same. Totally transformed the experience.
