Pink fluid under offside rear of Atom 3

Hi gang.

Just looking for a quick sanity check.
I have found a small puddle of quite thick pink fluid under the rear offside of the car. Coolant is thin and we don’t have power steering, so it’s got to be transmission fluid right?
I cannot see where it’s coming from but seems to drop down from the long forward/back beam under the car.
Could the gearbox be leaking and if so, why?
Any help gratefully received.

Hi Kai,

It sounds like transmission fluid as some have a pinkish colour to differentiate them from engine oil. However, Honda MTF is golden and looks like engine oil so I suspect if it is transmission fluid then it's not Honda's.

Check:

• around the drain plug (may be loose)

• around the driveshafts where they mate with the diff (could be worn oil seals)

• the seal between gearbox and clutch housing (could be a brake in it)

• where the clutch housing meets the engine (could be input shaft oil seal failure).

Hope it's the first or second.

Just noticed you said 'rear offside' - can you confirm? Is it gearbox side?

Ah yes, you’re right - I meant nearside / left side looking from rear.
I will check those areas and it’s definitely pink and oil like consistency.

Nobody, so far, has mentioned brake fluid which also is usually pinkish?

Aha - found it!!
The fluid is coolant (thankfully) and has been a result of slightly overfilling at the last recent service.
Strange that it should empty itself like that though .... the coolant level is now sitting on full.
I hope it won’t happen again.

Ps - I checked over literally every inch - every join - every seal. Nothing. Phew.

This happens often Winter time and we did just have a cold spell for a few days ..
