Why? I heard this is a must for when parking up and leaving it?

I've never locked mine in the last 2 cars I've had!! Been all round the UK and Europe, no problems with fuel being taken

Essential if you leave the car anywhere imo. Don't want some idiot trying to nick your fuel or putting something in there! It's un- obtrusive, low weight, and has benefit. Why not? Was much cheaper on earlier cars for the same item though. :(

The fuel cap is only £40, probably spent £40 in reading and replying on here..

I agree wholeheartedly with Sir Nick that a locking fuel cap is somewhat pointless and, personally, I never bother to lock it - for all I know (like most modern cars) there might even be an anti-siphon device fitted as part of the filler mechanism?

- similarly to his experience I have had no problems anywhere I have been in it during my nearly 4 years of ownership.

But could you not argue that nefarious person might see the lock on it and presume it's likely to be locked and move on. And that with that not present you may have had more chance of a problem?

I'm with Pete by the way, for the small cost, I'd rather have it, even if not used.

Lets be honest leaving the little filler cap key on a ring with your immobiliser fob is no issue, neither is unlocking / locking it to fill up. It takes literally 5 seconds. If thats too much hassle for you then fine, but its no issue.

Its one of those things that hopefully are never needed but may save a LOAD of hassle and cost one day.

In the end its upto you. Ignore / omit if you wish, but you never know. For the price it seems unwise to take the (admittedly small) risk. I don't want to get stuck somewhere or have the fuel adulterated and damage the engine. Could be costly and you'd never know till the damage was done.

But thats just my opinion. :vroom:

Not sure how the factory get the cars through the vehicle approval as the rules say:

The fuel filler cap must either be tethered to the vehicle or be of a lockable type where the key can only be removed when the cap is locked or an
automatically opening and closing, non-removable fuel filler cap

Maybe they cable tie it during its test. I have a locking cap but it wouldn't pass the test as you can remove the key when it's unlocked.

My car is the last so far and the filler cap is tethered, I’d guess they'll continue with that.

My Atom was built in 2011 and also has a 'tethered' lockable fuel cap!
