Re: Atom 4

Post by reg » Wed Oct 24, 2018 10:15 pm

Went to the factory today and had a ride in the Atom 4.

I've a lot of thoughts on the new car. Some points;

* it's still an Atom, still looks and feels like one
* Don't worry about the character, it's different but it's not a vegan ???
* The turbo is as much of a 'thing' as the supercharger is
* The mechanics of the new suspension geometry are big deal
* The ride is outstanding
* It's very, very quick
* it made me laugh out loud

And can I say, on the 3.5;

* The 310 K20 is not 'yesterdays car', it's just different
* I think it's slightly better looking

On the road the 4 is easier to go faster, the 3.5 is more edgy. The supercharger just makes for an angrier car, but the boost, I can't quite get this across but there's a certain point where it just feels so much stronger and really, really, satisfying.

We're very lucky people to have these options in a world which is full of anodyne crap ^-^

Any questions fire away.

I've a question for you, Reg:

Is it faster than an Atom 3.5 SC?

(soz, couldn't help mesel).

Cheers,

Definitely not what I was referring to, I meant the mechanical function of the engine as a stand alone unit

Will there be a cup/SRA version of the car though?
History would suggest so. might not be for a little time yet as we need to arrange the more common options first.

Yes. I would say the 4 is quicker than mine :pop:

But, there's a lot to like about a sorted 3.5, it sounds like the air is ripping with mine, hopefully we can find a solution with the new one, although obviously from the factory it will need to not make small animals explode as it passes by >:D

Spoke to Henry today. All I can say is let the speccing begin. But in the meantime, there’s some great roads and circuits to be driven in the fastest 3.5 245 (well it’s yellow and black and everyone knows that that colour combo is worth 2 seconds a lap and 0.1 of g around the Corkscrew or Camp or Karussel any day of the week. But back on topic.
255 section rear tyres. I don’t think I’ve ever owned a car with that much girth (oooeeer missus) on the back axle before. Well apart from a stupid 2009 hatchback WRX Sti petroloholic brakemuncher.
Wonder what the progression is like when grip breaks away?

I had a run out with Henry on Saturday, it was dry and cold, spent a good 90 minutes on site, epic as always, get a few pictures which are attached, I quite like the top down view ;-)

I'm no expert, i've driven and owned some reasonably quick normal road cars, M3, S4, WRX STI etc, nothing comes close to how ballistic the A4 is, even in 220bhp boost it was brutal, a brief acceleration in boost 3 (320bhp) confirmed this is by far and away the fastest car I have ever been in, wheel spin in 3rd and 4th anyone (slightly damp) ?

The only car I can compare this to in terms of outright acceleration, cornering and speed is the JP1 at the Palmersport days, it has to be experienced to be believed.

I'm assured that the pricelist is imminent, I got to have a good look, prices and options (dont quote me) looked very similar and will be available soon, carbon wheels are 2.5k a corner !!

One final mention to the noise, its very different obviously, however I love it, everything about the car is theatre ..

The pictures are great!

Those welds on the front shock mounts are downright sexy. Is the welder the same guy who paints the side stripe on Rolls-Royce?

Ah, I know what’s wrong with the 4. Everyone relax. It’s easy to fix. Black powder coat frame and yellow panels and all is right in the world.

That sounds like a bumble bee winmoz!

I like the white chassis with the black panel look. That is the cool thing though, you can choose the look you want.

The fit and finish, build quality and attention to detail are spot on, having a good look round every single piece of the car has had hours of attention lavished on it, each part thought out, nothing left up for debate (imho).

The white chassis on the 3.5R demonstrator looks awesome, my choice is grey with yellow or orange or red panels and black wheels ..

general shots are good - detail shots probably not worth it as the car you see here is still a prototype!
A very, very good one, but still pre production.

Happy for you to post them if everyone is happy that some of the pictures wont represent precisely what youll get on your car.
