Thinking about atom...eBay link

Post by Chriscov88 » Thu Apr 26, 2018 6:36 pm

Been looking on and off a couple of years now and not many come up around the 25k mark. I’ve spotted one on eBay and wondered if anyone has any info on the car or know the history etc?

Any advice or opinions would be appreciated.

Thanks, Chris

I guess it will be more 30k than 25k for a 06 / supercharged with carbon parts/wings

Judging by its poor condition and part SH, I'd steer clear.

Not sure I've ever seen an Atom on the bay.

Cheers,

Seller's advert is hopeless.

It's not on Pistonheads or Autotrader.... but is on Ebay, so not sure they know much about selling Atom's.

No reg plate, so no way of checking MOT history etc.

Unless I could go and check it over (and be bothered to do that), I'd not bother bidding.

Echoing other voices on here I would be very careful about buying!

I would email the seller requesting the registration number, check out the car's details on the Government MOT/Road Tax websites and, most importantly, also ask the Ariel factory what they know about about it's history.

The eBay photos (as far as I can see) are simply not of high enough quality to make any sort of judgement on it's actual condition.

That said - to my mind - it is somewhat suspiciously cheap!

That said - I have just noticed that the auction has now ended with a winning bid of £24600

The Seats looks suspicious (way higher on the passenger side than driver), and also the engine cover on the same side,
but maybe nothing.

Thomas

Yes you are entirely correct - very strange looking pax seat which I hadn't noticed until you pointed it out, also the front right suspension looks a bit 'iffey'!!

- the rear wing looks very 'home made' with an extreme leading edge angle - looks to be set at around 30-40 degrees 'nose down'!

The bloke selling it looks as though he(?) might be a 'private drive' type of car dealer as he has another car listed for sale (Mercedes) on eBay

Thanks for everyone’s input. I decided not to bid in the end as something doesn’t seem right about it. Poor pictures, very poor advert, not listed the mileage or history!? Just seem a bit odd. It might turn out to be a bit of a bargain or even a complete shed but that’s for someone else to find out now.

There is this Atom on Autotrader which looks like a fairly good price. Quite high miles though: https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified ... New&page=1

In terms of the mileage if it were any other 2009 seco9nd hand car an 'average' mileage would be between 90,000 to 108,000 miles (10,000-12,000 annually)!

As this this is an Atom 3 it is at an extremely competetive price albeit unsupercharged

With the registration number to hand (WA09 JWF) I would suggest you call Tom or Henry at the Ariel Factory who generally have a wealth of information about most of the Atoms that are currently on the market.

Looking at the 'walk around' video it looks pretty clean with nothing obviously amiss - but then again it would be much better to closely inspect it in person - prefereably with someone familiar with Atoms to get a good idea of it's underlying condition.

A good detail and I bet it will come up looking close to new. If I hadn't ordered one I would consider it.

I'm in the process of buying this.
Ive been to see it and test drove it last week.
It needs a good detail but it's in relatively good condition.
