Hi Ian just looked through some of the photos of the engine the closed deck block looks like a LA sleve job they are well known for the work in the world of engine machining. How ever the closed deck you have is for i.e. 1000+hp and has been known to have over heating problems its intended for dragsters that run for 5min i.e. not enough water flow i would take this up with the builder as you may have recourse later. A K24 standard block will run at 400 hp all day long without any internal work and who are the rods made by as all high end rods have the name etched in them. Ps not trying to P you off just watching your back Levo.

It appears the head is flowing nicely up top. With the original 9,000 rpm+ rev goal it should make more power if revved more. Charge air too hot or reliability concerns exist for revving it higher? Stock bottom end and heads can do 8,000 rpm all day so all those good $$ parts in this build are not returning any more power if limited to 8K rpm.

I second the sleeves comment. Cooling is a concern for applications other than drag racing. The AMG A45 engine is closed deck but that one is cast as such from factory and built with effectively limitless engineering hours.

Also second the warm up comment. I installed an electric water pump to heat up the engine more effectively on cold days. It's important to prevent blown headgaskets and the forged pistons are far more likely to rattle in the bore. My build uses Mahle forged units which are somewhere between the super strong forged slugs and the OEM cast ones in both expansion and strength.

Love how original this build is. Should be oodles of fun to drive in the super light Atom. Thanks for sharing! :vroom:

Hi Curves Junkie
Well car arrived home early March all ready for a summer then COVID-19 arrived 🤬🤬
Gave me a couple of months to check everything over.
First drive was interesting the pros and cons of a lightened flywheel, car takes off like a scolded cat and then you lose a lot of engine braking which was interesting at the first junction.

Love the power range 8600 RPM with the toque of the 2.4 litre engine

A few runs out when lockdown ended mainly the Brecon Beacons
Then planning the Welsh weekend early September

Lockdown ended off to Wales for a long weekend with a great bunch, car ran faultlessly 1500 miles later we developed a slight miss fire
This fault resulted in time to understand the Hondata plunged it in uploaded the software and started to play
First screen was a load off interesting lines 🙈🙈
It’s a great bit of kit you can see all the sensors, fuel consumption and a load off other things

Later in September found a new chap who was recommended by the Honda garage next door to me to get the car remapped ,down to London on a Saturday morning To get it sorted

First fault was the fuel mixture at 4000 RPM Jess rewrote the map and then the
road test .This was interesting I don’t think he could open his eyes :H: :H:
Then back on the hub dyno all sorted 330 bhp at the wheels.
Well impressed.

Over the winter covered it up and forgot about it.
Spring arrived a few mods and just waiting for the weather to improve

Hello IanG ,
sorry for my delay response.
I have send you a PN.

Same >:D here, but I have never driven so many miles with the Ariel as I did last year. :vroom:
This year it is much more complicated to drive here. Only added nearly 1000 miles on the clock this season. :'(

The flywheel on my K20 is a lightened. Which flywheel do you use now?
That's interested to hear that you lose a lot of engine braking. But when accelerating, the engine would have to rev up significantly faster - or not?
IanG wrote: Thu May 06, 2021 6:45 pm Love the power range 8600 RPM with the toque of the 2.4 litre engine
Do you have set the limit to 8600 yourself or set your enigine builder this limit? I have read 9000 or 9500 will be easy possible.
I love very high RPM's.

The first 1500 miles driving without changing everything at the ECU mapping?
Really - and the 2,4 litre engine runs perfectly?
IanG wrote: Thu May 06, 2021 6:45 pm Then back on the hub dyno all sorted 330 bhp at the wheels.

330 at the wheels not at the crankshaft- that's very great and sounds the engine makes a lot of fun. :vroom:

You have mounted the JR SC too?
With intercooler or not?

Who did you use for the mapping? I've got a modified k20 and I think the map needs a bit more fettling so any recommendations would be appreciated.
