Atom 4 - how long will battery last

Post by apr1962 » Sun Apr 18, 2021 9:10 am

Just taken delivery of my Atom 4.

I don’t currently have access to a power socket. How long will the battery last without a trickle charger connected?

I’ll post some pictures shortly.

Thanks
Andrew

No idea but just disconnect battery if left for a long period. 10mm socket, job done

Hi Andrew,

i think it depends on how often you drive.
Battery kill switch would be the best solution.
I dont know how much mA the Immobilizer on a 4 takes.

You also have to consider the drain due to the tracker if one is fitted?

Most trackers have an inbuilt rechargeable battery (charged by the main battery) in case a thief disconnects the main battery.

If this inbuilt tracker battery is fully discharged often it won't recharge again and will need to be replaced by a visit from an approved installer.

If you take the car out for a run every 8 - 10 days or so you should have no problems.

Another alternative is to purchase a rechargeable portable jump starter power pack - such as a Sealey Road Start - and simply leave it plugged into into the car which should be good for a long period. Just take it home and recharge it periodically.

If you disconnect the battery it will retain charge for over a year (according to Rookie, so it's got to be true!)

Cheers,

Disconnect the battery when you arent going to drive it - thnwe you wont ever have a flat! it will last a week or so - but i feel if thats a repeat occurance, it may damage the battery. The type of battery used the Atom (Lead Gel Type) does not respond well to discharge cycles.

Any help - give us a call at the factory.

I've had to replace the battery on mine once when it went flat last winter. I reckon it was about 2 months between start attempts. I couldn't resurrect the dead battery using the normal methods unfortunately, so now have it on trickle charge.
