Got to agree with Smokin.....actually thinking of removing mine apart from MOT time!

Improves the looks and the aerodynamics!

Never out at night and the new LED's give me enough daytime running

In the 7 years I've had the car (blimey, has it really been that long) I've never driven it at night or in an evening when I would have needed the headlights. Unlike Cyprus it's too parky at night here in Blighty for me, even when we have a good summer.

The headlights are there purely to be road legal and for the occassional flash of gratitude. I totally agree they're next to useless for their intended purpose (I have tested them on the driveway at night).

Even after all this time though I'm still no fan of how the projectors look on the 3.5 - in pictures or up close, and since I don't need them functionally I'll be sticking with Mickey's ears (like that)

i still have a pair of double wave lights available that i bought for my atom 2 but never fitted. very nice lamps with dip, main and side all in one. designed for bikes but look nice on an atom (seen one done in US)
make me an offer if anyone wants them, never used in black

Smokin

I like the look of your smoked LED lights but I would have strong reservations about retaining the 'mickey mouse' ear style side mounted headlights which, in practise, I soon found to be all but useless at night as I hated the unavoidable glare that was reflected back from the front mudguard/suspension/wheels.

Currently most of my driving in Cyprus is done either in the late afternoon, early evening or during the night as it it much more pleasurable than driving during the heat of the day - so upgrading to the excellent and powerful 3.5 spec LED headlights was an absolute must for me!

I genuinely believe that this was one of the best decisions I have made since I bought my Atom was to upgrade the lights to the 3.5 spec LED projectors - they absolutely have transformed night driving into a positively pleasurable experience.

Various other alternative LED options to the standard factory 3.5 LED projector upgrade that have been fitted by other members have also been interesting and, I suspect, hugely better than the original lights which have never really done the Atom any favours in either looks or effectiveness!

Moving the headlights to a position in front of the wheels completely transforms night driving!  8)

Update on my lighting solution. I've switched to a smoked version of the Defender LEDs and they work well, look more subdued and better imho

I liked the smoked look so much I used some porcelain black acrylic to coat the indicators in the nose.

I've always liked the idea of the indicators in the side of the JCB headlamps but hated, with a passion, the ugliness of the implementation. Using the same LEDs I have in the nose, I think they look great (in comparison).

Did the replacement a few weeks ago.
Just for everyone who will think about it too.
Got an 10% off discount code from JGS4x4 in my order.
Discount Code: JGSFIRST

Maybe some of you want save some money.
The Wipac full Kit has already the right CF flasher modul and i can also recommend the side repeaters smokin stated.

Ordered a CF14 flasher relay and now all works perfectly. Very impressed with both the look and the functionality  :)

So, for anyone thinking of buying the 8 light upgrade from EBay (bargain at £95) please note it comes with the wrong relay and the wires for the brake /rear lights do not match the colours used by Ariel.

Once those minor issues are sorted....highly recommended

Afternoon Chris,

Swapping the wires (so the colours no longer match) worked perfectly so now have rear and brake lights....thanks Smokin and Chris.

Not sure if I was supplied with a CF13....no markings on it (although it does say Relay Flasher for LED). That relay works fine from a flashing point of view but clicks all the time! Have ordered a CF14 off eBay....fingers crossed.

What a difference the lights make....both on (so much brighter) and off (look much more modern)

Hi Hamish,

Firstly, check your flasher relay. You need a CF14, not CF13.

The side repeaters won't have any effect when the LED flasher is fitted, working or not.

The original flasher flash speed is related to the current drawn by the lights connectd to it. This is to alert you that a lamp is blown by flasing faster. LED's draw less current compared to a 21W lamp hence the faster flash rate when it is re-fitted.

Secondly check your wiring. I can't remeber the colours of the LED lights wires but I think they use white for negative not black. The best way to check them is to turn the side lights on and use that 12V to identify the side/stop/earth wires.

Chris

1. Have fitted the flasher relay that comes with the lights and it clicks all the time! If I put the original relay back in the indicators work but they flash at twice the speed! (Is it something to do with the two small indicators near the bonnet not being LEDs)
[/quote]
I suspect so. Disconnect to confirm. Recommend these - http://www.carbuildersolutions.com/uk/micro-28mm-led-side-repeaters-clear-lens-amber-light-pair

2. The brake lights work fine if the lights aren't on. The rear lights work really well, but if the lights are on, the brakes don't make the lights any brighter!

Are you sure the side/brake wires are the correct way round?

At last got round to fitting the 8 new lights and now have two problems I need some help / advice with....

1. Have fitted the flasher relay that comes with the lights and it clicks all the time! If I put the original relay back in the indicators work but they flash at twice the speed! (Is it something to do with the two small indicators near the bonnet not being LEDs)

2. The brake lights work fine if the lights aren't on. The rear lights work really well, but if the lights are on, the brakes don't make the lights any brighter!

Help....totally confused now  >:(

They do have a flat back except the wires enter in the centre.
You would of course, you will loose the aerodynamics of the old cover.
May cost you a tenth or more!

I like those led lights.
Looking on the product pics of these led lights there are flat at the back. Is it possible to get rid of the OE plastic housing and close the back with a flat carbon plate?
