My first post……. and delighted to say that on a cold saturday morning I met up with Andrew and concluded our deal on his immaculate Atom 3.
My brother dropped me at Newcastle station at 5:30, rendezvousing with my youngest son at Doncaster station 2 hours later - on the way down we tried to calm our excitement by agreeing a set of hand signals for the journey back. (Any similarity to Jenkinson/Moss of 60 years earlier ends right there.)
We spent a couple of hours with Andrew in Watford and with a few pointers (mainly 'take it easy'), we headed North for a 290 Mile starter run to just North of Newcastle. I would have been home earlier but for the lure of a number of roundabouts and slip roads on the M1 and dropping off the my son at Leeds Uni on the way. It wasn't the warmest experience of my life, as in turn, the cloud became drizzle, then rain. With numb fingers and limbs I arrived home to find out that my wife had already cleared a space in the garage, something I hadn't dared do before I left.
So a big 'thank you' to Tom and Henry at the factory, to RS4 George for taking the time out to head over to my house and planting a big seed in my head, and especially to Andrew for selling me his car.
See you out there. Aidan
