I got the priviledge of driving the 12C for a 1 hour unrestrictive test drive in the mountains of LA last month.

What a car! Unreal experience to drive a McLaren, what a dream come true!

My quick review:
- Suspension was a revelation. Can be quite soft and quite stiff when it wants to be. In normal, the car rides like a Merc. In Track, its almost has no roll, quite stiff. I think Sport is the best compromise.
- Powertrain is insane. The engine is soo managable and linear. The gearbox is perfect. I cant imagine a better shifting car. On the 1/4 mile freeway on ramp, I hit 115 mph without even trying, just epic!
- Carbon Brakes were like hitting a wall! My first go in a car with carbon brakes. I love the stiff brake pedal, and the car stops on a dime, but very hard to modulate on the street. Its almost on or off, would take a bit of time to get used too.
- Steering and seat position was perfect.
- I do not like the sound generating device in Sport/Track mode, very artificial. In normal, the device is turned off, and engine is quiet but natural, fine with me.

Didnt get to play around with the electronics, just focused on driving it.

Anyway, probably the best test drive of my life :)

Kudos to McLaren for building the class benchmark in its first attempt.

Yeah looks like he wont make anything unfortunately.

There was one at Goodwood on Saturday who I followed for a bit then very satisfyingly overtook !! Had a close look and very nice car but Owner still had no Sat Nav etc as the Iris system isnt working yet.

All good points but the problems were in place prior any deliveries (Iris etc). So as an advert for British Engineering I applaud it, but as a documentary I am not so sure !!

My guess is that the programme was filmed prior to customers picking up on the various teething problems the early cars have had and I'm not surprised that the programme was completely biased to showing McLaren in a good light.

I thought it was a good programme though with lots of stuff that I'd not seen before and it least it's helping promote engineering in the UK which has got to be a good thing.

I thought the opposite actually Ross. It was interesting to a certain extent but really just seemed like a very long advert for Macca. Now, I am not complaining about that as I want M to be a big success, but it just was a bit odd. There was no mention of the multiple problems they have had with production - well, not in the part I watched.

It was great programme on BBC2 last night about McLaren's production/engineering of the car.  Made me want it again just for the engineering - the car actually seems like good value when you see how much work goes into each build!

Cheers, Ross.

C'mon Richard you've gone all quiet on us.

A couple of months in to Mclaren ownership.....what's your experience?

Happy....is it what you expected?
Exceeded or failed to live up to expectations?

As most of us will never drive one....it would be interesting to know.....

Interesting feedback from some owners here :- http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&f=63&t=1056033&mid=156749&nmt=MP4-12C+photos+and+review%2Fcomparison , especially "Lambo FirstBlood" experience  :pop:

Not the greatest set of photo's of it on PH.

Owner must be confident that it'll sell itself.......very McLaren like.
