Must admit after 650 miles......very impressed.

Put it in Eco mode and it's a quiet motorway/town cruiser that averages 32mpg

Put it in Race and it comes alive, the 4wd system really lets you get the power down, so much so it feels a good bit faster than my M3. The synthesised engine note won't be to everyone's taste, but I think it sounds somewhere between a Scooby warble and a junior V8

Hmmm, lasted a year.

The M3 was superb, what an engine! However, whilst I had factored in the cost of the poor fuel economy I STUPIDLY didn't factor in the fact I would be sitting on the petrol forecourt almost EVERY day !!!!

So, tomorrow I pick up a Golf R.....5 door practicality, loaded with toys and somewhere between 30-40 mpg plus 0-60 in 4.9s  :vroom:

All the wife's fault....she just bought a puppy!!!!!

So wot do do think of the R.
I may be in the market for one and wonder if it's worth the fuss over a Gti?
Cheers Wattie

Front or rear wheel drive?

Clio is a good shout for a fwd (197 would be a really good choice imo) or MX5 is genuinely hard to beat if it's had a few basic upgrades already.

Cheers,
Stu

Probably should be another topic, but what would you buy for under a grand or under 5 for that matter? Quite fancy the idea of something fun that I don't car what happens to.

Honda Civic EP3 Type R.  :tu:

Good Choice!

mx5 is a great little toy for tracking. Cheap and easy to buy and maintain - even some low cost race series if you like that sort of thing. A scooby would be my second choice

Buy something for under a grand and thrash the nuts off it. There's nothing quite like not caring what happens to your car to make you smile. When you're bored just get another one... And you can probably sell it for what you bought it for, or give it away if you can't be arsed to sell it. That'll make you smile, too

Still running an E90 M3, apart from there appears to be an issue with the fuel gauge, it's great :). I looked at selling it but drove a few other cars and really missed RWD and the throttle response/noise.

Good luck with the Golf R, fantastically capable cars.

Stunning looking cars and so capable, test drove one last year but ended up with a c63...  Which I don't regret that was a different animal with the performance pack too...  Oh the noise!

You'll enjoy the M3, i had a coupe for 18 months.  Good car, although the DCT was a bit frustrating, never in quite the right gear, and 22 mpg is quite wearing giving a 250 mile range.  Still a lovely car.

Why not consider a Telsa S?

Range is enough for your commute, the acceleration is mental
It's over £40k, it isnt a convertible.
