If you are interested in lojack alternatives there should be some sort of cellular based option. Many cellphones have GPS and tower triangulation and can be easily programmed to report in lat/long regularly to a web server. A low-tech option would be to get an additional cheap data package phone on some sort of family plan (no additional monthly fee) and hook it into electric.
How much does lojack cost?
